Trawden Celtic cruised through to the quarter-final of the Dolphin’s Bakery Cup with a comprehensive win over Glenross Juniors.
Celtic made a few changes due to injuries and suspensions. Usual left-back Ben Gorman played in goal with Declan Pinder stepping in on the left, and with James Brookes injured, Thomas Ellacott played up front alongside Phil Shaw.
The hosts were determined not to be out-muscled and made this clear with some physical challenges on the Celtic players, particularly Ollie Slater, but Celtic took the lead with a good finish by Richard Dixon which the Glenross keeper failed to hold.
Phil Shaw made it 2-0 minutes later, giving the keeper no chance. Spencer Jordan nipped in to make it 3-0, and that was the score at the break, thanks to a great save by Ben Gorman just before half-time which prevented Glenross from pulling one back.
It was one-way traffic in the second half with the two midfield dynamos, Liam Britton and Spencer Jordan (claiming his second of the match), both scoring with long rage efforts, and Ollie Slater running riot on the right wing.
Spencer had a great chance for his hat-trick when he was one-on-one with the keeper but the Glenross stopper saved well.
Celtic were awarded a penalty for handball, and Thomas Ellacott stepped up to make it 6-0, much to the delight of his team mates.
In the closing minutes, Spencer Jordan, still trying to claim his third goal, hit the bar from close range, but right-back Carl Pain nipped in to head the rebound over the keeper to make it 7-0.
Another clean sheet with captain Callum Whitfield and Thomas “Tank” Farthing taking no prisoners in the centre of defence.
Man-of-the-Match was Oliver Slater
